Power BI dashboards on Business Central & Dynamics 365

Copilot, forecasting and anomaly detection

Microsoft Fabric data platform when you need it

A governed data model, documented and handed over

We connect Business Central, Dynamics 365 and your other systems to Power BI, build one governed data model and deliver dashboards that refresh themselves — inside the Microsoft 365 you already use.

The result: decisions made on today’s numbers, not last month’s spreadsheet.

What is Dynamics 365 business intelligence — and how does Power BI fit with Microsoft 365 and Power Platform?

Dynamics 365 business intelligence is the reporting and analytics layer on top of your Microsoft business systems — usually built with Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft’s business intelligence platform. Power BI connects to Dynamics 365 Business Central, Dynamics 365 Sales and Customer Service, Excel, SharePoint, SQL and hundreds of other sources, combines them in one governed data model and publishes dashboards that refresh automatically. Power BI is part of Microsoft Power Platform (with Power Apps, Power Automate and Copilot Studio) and runs inside Microsoft 365 — reports open in Teams, Excel, SharePoint and PowerPoint — while Microsoft Fabric adds a data lake, data engineering and AI for larger estates. Eagle360 is a Microsoft partner in Sydney and Melbourne that designs, builds and supports Power BI and Fabric solutions for Australian businesses running Business Central and Dynamics 365.

💡

What is Dynamics 365 business intelligence?

Business intelligence for Dynamics 365 means turning the data in Business Central, Dynamics 365 Sales and your other systems into live dashboards, reports and forecasts — usually with Microsoft Power BI. Instead of exporting to Excel, everyone works from one trusted, automatically refreshed version of the numbers.

Is Power BI part of Microsoft 365 and Power Platform?

Yes. Power BI is part of Microsoft Power Platform, alongside Power Apps, Power Automate and Copilot Studio, and it runs inside Microsoft 365 — reports open in Teams, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint and Outlook. Power BI Pro is included in Microsoft 365 E5.

How much does Power BI cost in Australia?

Power BI Desktop is free. Power BI Pro is AU$21.00 per user per month and Premium Per User is AU$35.90 (Microsoft list prices, ex GST, paid yearly). Larger organisations can buy Microsoft Fabric capacity instead; from F64, people with a free licence can view reports.

Does Business Central work with Power BI?

Yes. Microsoft provides nine Power BI apps for Business Central — Finance, Sales, Purchasing, Inventory, Inventory Valuation, Projects, Manufacturing, Sustainability and Subscription Billing — and since 2024 release wave 2 the reports can open inside Business Central. We extend them with your own measures, budgets and other data sources.

Can Copilot answer questions about my data?

Yes — Copilot in Power BI answers questions in plain English, summarises reports and suggests visuals. It needs a paid Fabric capacity (F2 or higher) or Power BI Premium (P1 or higher); a Pro or Premium Per User licence alone is not enough.

How long does a Power BI project take?

It depends on how many sources you connect and how clean the data is. We start with one high-value dashboard on a solid data model, put it in front of real users, then extend — so you see value early instead of waiting for a big-bang release.

Your questions, answered

Whatever your reporting problem — we’ve solved it before

The 26 questions Australian businesses ask us most about Power BI, Business Central reporting and Microsoft Fabric. Open any card to see how we fix it.

Showing 26 of 26 questions

Our month-end reporting takes days. Can Power BI fix that?

Finance & reporting

Yes. We connect Power BI directly to Business Central (or your ERP), build the P&L, balance sheet, cash and budget reports once, and schedule them to refresh. Month-end becomes reviewing numbers, not building spreadsheets.

Finance app · Budgets · Scheduled refresh

Different managers bring different numbers to the same meeting.

Finance & reporting

That is a data model problem, not a report problem. We build one governed semantic model with agreed definitions — revenue, margin, active customer — so every report and every person uses the same logic.

Semantic model · Certified datasets

Can we see cash flow and aged debtors every morning?

Finance & reporting

Yes. A cash and receivables dashboard shows bank balances, expected receipts, aged debtors and late payers, refreshed before you start work — and can be emailed or pushed to Teams.

Liquidity KPIs · Aged receivables · Subscriptions

We budget in Excel. Can we compare budget with actuals in Power BI?

Finance & reporting

Yes. Budgets can stay in Excel or SharePoint, or move into Business Central budgets. We bring them into the model so actual versus budget and forecast updates automatically, by month, department and dimension.

Budget vs actual · Dimensions

We have several companies or entities. Can we consolidate?

Finance & reporting

Yes. We combine companies, currencies and charts of accounts into one model, with intercompany eliminations and drill-down to each entity — without copy-paste consolidation workbooks.

Multi-company · Currency · Drill-down

Do we still need paginated, printable reports?

Finance & reporting

Often, yes — for statutory packs, invoices or board papers. Power BI paginated reports produce pixel-perfect, printable output from the same trusted model as your dashboards.

Paginated reports · PDF export

Sales managers cannot see the pipeline and the orders together.

Sales & operations

We combine Dynamics 365 Sales (or your CRM) with Business Central orders and invoices, so the same dashboard shows pipeline, bookings, revenue and margin by rep, customer and product.

Dynamics 365 Sales · Business Central

We run out of stock on some items and hold too much of others.

Sales & operations

Inventory dashboards show stock cover, slow movers, availability and supplier performance. Forecasts based on your sales history help you buy the right quantities at the right time.

Inventory · Forecasting · Purchasing

Which customers and products actually make money?

Sales & operations

Profitability analysis by customer, product, channel and salesperson — including discounts, freight and rebates — shows where margin is made and lost, so you can act on it.

Profitability · Decomposition tree

Can project managers see budget, actuals and WIP in one place?

Sales & operations

Yes. Project dashboards show budget versus actual, profitability, realisation and WIP for each project and task, from Business Central jobs or your project system.

Projects app · WIP · Timesheets

Can we track manufacturing capacity, scrap and variances?

Sales & operations

Yes. Manufacturing reports cover work centre and machine centre load, capacity and consumption variance, scrap and production order WIP — and we add the measures specific to your plant.

Manufacturing app · OEE-style KPIs

Our warehouse and online store data never match the ERP.

Sales & operations

We bring Shopify, marketplaces, warehouse and EDI data into the same model as Business Central, reconcile it and highlight exceptions, so you can trust stock and order numbers again.

Shopify · EDI · Reconciliation

Our data lives in Business Central, CRM, Excel and an old SQL database.

Data & integration

That is the most common starting point. We connect each source with Power Query, dataflows or Microsoft Fabric, clean and combine the data once, and build one model on top — no more manual merges.

Power Query · Dataflows · Fabric

Business Central reports are slow or time out.

Data & integration

Large reports should not query transactional tables live. We use API pages, incremental refresh, aggregated tables or Fabric (including the new Business Central mirroring) so reports stay fast without slowing down the ERP.

Incremental refresh · Fabric mirroring

Do we need a data warehouse or Microsoft Fabric?

Data & integration

Not always. Many businesses do well with Power BI and a good model. Fabric makes sense when you have large volumes, many sources, near-real-time needs or data science plans. We tell you honestly which you need.

Power BI · Fabric · Lakehouse

Can we combine our data with external or industry data?

Data & integration

Yes — weather, exchange rates, ABS statistics, marketplace or supplier data can be joined to your own data so you can explain trends, not just report them.

External data · APIs

Our data is messy. Is it worth starting?

Data & integration

Yes — and reporting is the fastest way to find out where the data is wrong. We profile it, fix what matters most, and show data-quality exceptions in their own report so they get corrected at the source.

Data quality · Exception reports

Can customers or suppliers see their own reports?

Data & integration

Yes. With Power BI Embedded we put secure, branded reports into your portal or app, and row-level security makes sure each customer only sees their own data.

Power BI Embedded · Row-level security

Can our team ask questions about the data in plain English?

AI & Copilot

Yes. Copilot in Power BI answers questions, summarises pages and explains changes. We prepare the model — clear names, descriptions and synonyms — so the answers are accurate.

Copilot · Q&A · AI-ready models

Can Power BI forecast sales, demand or cash?

AI & Copilot

Yes. We build forecasts from your history — from simple seasonal models inside Power BI to machine-learning models in Fabric — and show the range of likely outcomes, not just one line.

Forecasting · Fabric data science

Can we be alerted when something unusual happens?

AI & Copilot

Yes. Anomaly detection highlights unusual values, and alerts can notify the right person in Teams or email — for example when margin drops, a customer stops ordering or stock falls below cover.

Anomaly detection · Alerts · Teams

Is Copilot in Power BI available in Australia?

AI & Copilot

Yes, but check two things: you need a paid Fabric capacity (F2+) or Premium (P1+), and because Australia is outside the US and EU data boundary, your admin must allow Copilot data to be processed outside your region. We walk you through the settings and the risk.

Tenant settings · Data boundary

We already have Power BI but nobody uses the reports.

Adoption & existing Power BI

Usually the reports answer the wrong questions or nobody trusts the numbers. We review what exists, talk to the people who should use it, rebuild around real decisions and train them — then measure usage.

Report review · Adoption

Our Power BI reports are slow and hard to change.

Adoption & existing Power BI

We optimise the model — star schema, efficient DAX, incremental refresh — remove duplicated logic and document it, so reports are fast and changes take hours, not weeks.

Performance tuning · DAX

Our only Power BI expert left the company.

Adoption & existing Power BI

We take over the reports, document the model and logic, fix what is fragile and support you — or train your people so the knowledge stays in the business.

Managed BI · Documentation · Training

Can we have reports on our phones and in Teams?

Adoption & existing Power BI

Yes. Power BI reports work in the mobile apps and inside Teams channels and chats, and we design mobile layouts for the reports people check on the go.

Mobile · Teams

What is Microsoft Power BI?

Power BI is Microsoft’s business intelligence platform. You connect data sources, build a data model, and publish interactive reports and dashboards that refresh automatically and can be shared securely across your organisation, in Teams and on mobile.

Is Power BI part of Microsoft Power Platform?

Yes. Microsoft Power Platform includes Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio and Power Pages. They share connectors, security and Dataverse, so a Power BI report can trigger a Power Automate flow or be embedded in a Power App.

Is Power BI included in Microsoft 365?

Power BI Pro is included in Microsoft 365 E5 and Office 365 E5. With other Microsoft 365 plans you can use Power BI Desktop and the free account, and add Pro licences for people who share or view shared reports.

What is the difference between Power BI Desktop and the Power BI service?

Power BI Desktop is a free Windows application for building data models and reports. The Power BI service (app.powerbi.com) is where reports are published, shared, refreshed and secured, and where dashboards, apps and subscriptions live.

Power BI or Excel — which should we use?

Both. Excel is ideal for ad-hoc analysis and modelling. Power BI is better for shared, automatically refreshed reporting with one version of the truth and security by user. Many teams analyse a Power BI model directly in Excel.

What is a semantic model?

A semantic model (previously called a dataset) holds the tables, relationships, measures and security behind your reports. Getting the model right is what makes numbers consistent, reports fast and Copilot answers accurate.

What is Dynamics 365 business intelligence?

It is reporting and analytics on top of Microsoft Dynamics 365 — Business Central, Sales, Customer Service or Finance — usually with Power BI and, for larger data estates, Microsoft Fabric.

Which Power BI apps does Business Central include?

Microsoft provides Power BI apps for Finance, Sales, Purchasing, Inventory, Inventory Valuation, Projects, Manufacturing, Sustainability and Subscription Billing, with ready-made reports for each area that we install, configure and extend.

Can Power BI reports open inside Business Central?

Yes. Since Business Central 2024 release wave 2, Power BI reports can be embedded and opened directly inside Business Central pages, so users see analytics without leaving the ERP. Viewing them requires a Power BI licence.

How does Power BI connect to Business Central?

Through the Business Central connector and API pages, or through Microsoft Fabric. Microsoft has also announced Business Central data mirroring to Fabric, which replicates selected tables in near real time without using API limits.

Can Power BI combine Business Central with Dynamics 365 Sales?

Yes. Dynamics 365 Sales data comes from Dataverse — directly or through Link to Microsoft Fabric — and we join it with Business Central orders, invoices and margins in one model.

Do you only work with Business Central?

No. We also connect MYOB Acumatica, Dynamics 365 Finance, SQL Server, Excel, SharePoint, Shopify, Xero and most systems with an API or database.

How much does Power BI cost in Australia?

Microsoft list prices (ex GST, paid yearly, checked October 2026): Power BI Pro AU$21.00 per user per month and Premium Per User AU$35.90 per user per month. Power BI Desktop is free. Fabric capacity is priced by size and region.

Who needs a Power BI Pro licence?

Anyone who publishes or shares content, and — unless content sits on an F64 or larger capacity — anyone who views shared reports. On F64+ capacities, viewers can use a free licence.

When does Microsoft Fabric capacity make sense?

When you need Copilot in Power BI, Fabric data engineering, very large models, or when hundreds of people view reports and free viewing on F64+ becomes cheaper than Pro for everyone.

How much does a Power BI implementation cost?

It depends on the number of sources, the state of the data and how many reports you need. After a free discovery workshop we give you a fixed-price proposal for an agreed scope.

Are there ongoing costs after go-live?

Licences or capacity, plus optional managed BI support for monitoring, fixes and new reports. Many clients start with a small monthly support plan and scale it as reporting grows.

What is Microsoft Fabric?

Microsoft Fabric is Microsoft’s end-to-end analytics platform — data engineering, data warehousing, real-time analytics, data science and Power BI — all on one data lake called OneLake.

Is Power BI part of Microsoft Fabric?

Yes. Power BI is the reporting experience inside Fabric. You can use Power BI on its own with Pro licences, or with Fabric capacity when you need the wider platform.

What do I need for Copilot in Power BI?

A paid Fabric capacity (F2 or higher) or Power BI Premium (P1 or higher), the Copilot tenant setting turned on, and a supported region. A Pro or Premium Per User licence alone is not enough.

Is our data safe with Copilot?

Copilot respects your existing Power BI permissions and row-level security. In Australia, Copilot requires your admin to allow processing outside the local region — we explain what that means so you can decide.

Can Power BI do forecasting and anomaly detection?

Yes. Line charts include built-in forecasting and anomaly detection, and Fabric adds machine-learning models for more advanced demand, cash or churn forecasts.

How long does it take to build a Power BI dashboard?

A focused first dashboard on a clean source is usually quick; connecting several systems or fixing data quality takes longer. We agree the timeline in discovery and deliver in short iterations.

Can you fix or take over our existing Power BI reports?

Yes. We review your models and reports, fix performance and accuracy problems, document what exists and support it going forward.

Do you provide Power BI training?

Yes — role-based training for report viewers, self-service analysts and administrators, using your own data and reports.

Where are you based?
