Navision and NAV upgrades to Business Central online

Senior consultants averaging 12+ years in Dynamics

Business Central brings finance, sales, purchasing, inventory, warehousing, projects and manufacturing into one Microsoft cloud system that works inside Outlook, Excel and Teams — with Copilot built in.

The result: one version of the truth, a faster month-end and an ERP you won’t outgrow.

What is Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central?

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is Microsoft’s all-in-one ERP (enterprise resource planning) system for small and mid-sized businesses. It replaces separate accounting, inventory and spreadsheet tools with one system for finance, sales, purchasing, inventory, warehousing, projects, service and manufacturing. Business Central is the direct successor to Microsoft Dynamics NAV — originally called Navision — so NAV customers can upgrade instead of starting again. It runs in Microsoft’s cloud (or on your own servers), includes an Australian version for GST and BAS reporting, works inside Outlook, Excel and Teams, and has Copilot and AI agents built in. Eagle360 is a Microsoft partner that has implemented, upgraded and supported Navision, NAV and Business Central since 2011, with teams in Sydney and Melbourne.

💡

Is Navision the same as Business Central?

Yes — it’s the same product family. Microsoft bought Navision in 2002 and renamed it Dynamics NAV, and in 2018 NAV became Dynamics 365 Business Central. Your data and much of your process knowledge can come with you.

How much does Business Central cost?

Microsoft’s Australian list prices start at AU$119.70 per user per month for Essentials and AU$164.60 for Premium (ex GST, paid yearly). Implementation is quoted at a fixed price after a short discovery. See the estimator →

How long does implementation take?

A standard mid-market implementation goes live in 12–20 weeks: around 10–14 weeks for distribution and 16–24 weeks for manufacturing. Our Unifii360 templates typically save about 20%.

Real problems we solve

Which Business Central situation are you in?

Whether you’re choosing an ERP, upgrading Navision or fixing a system that isn’t working, pick the situation closest to yours. You’ll see the problem, what it costs you, how we solve it and the result to expect.

1Select the situation that matches yours

Outgrowing Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks

Your accounting software was right for a smaller business. Now it’s holding you back.

Before

  • Stock tracked in spreadsheets
  • No job costing or margins by job
  • Month-end takes a week

↓

With Business Central

  • Live stock across every location
  • Margins by customer, item and job
  • Month-end closed in days

Challenge

Add-on apps, spreadsheets and manual journals fill the gaps your accounting package can’t — inventory, purchasing, job costing, multiple entities and approvals.

What it costs you

Double handling, stock errors, slow month-end and decisions made on numbers nobody fully trusts.

How we solve it

A fixed-price Business Central implementation: we map your processes, configure finance, sales, purchasing and inventory, migrate opening balances and master data from Xero or MYOB, train your team and support you through go-live.

Typical scope

Essentials licenceData migrationPower BIOutlook & ExcelUnifii360 template

The outcome

One system for the whole business — live in 12–20 weeks, at a price agreed before we start.

Still running Navision or Dynamics NAV

NAV still works — but every month on an unsupported version adds risk.

Before

  • No security updates on older versions
  • Heavily customised C/AL code
  • Servers and SQL to maintain

↓

With Business Central

  • Microsoft-managed cloud, always current
  • Customisations rebuilt as clean extensions
  • Copilot, Power BI and M365 built in

Challenge

NAV 2009, 2013, 2015 and 2016 are already out of Microsoft support. NAV 2017’s extended support ends on 11 January 2027 and NAV 2018’s on 11 January 2028. Many systems also carry years of customisations nobody wants to touch.

What it costs you

Security exposure, compliance risk, hardware costs and an ERP that can’t connect to modern apps — plus a shrinking pool of people who know old C/AL code.

How we solve it

We assess your version, data and customisations, then recommend the right route: a technical upgrade through the supported versions, or a fresh Business Central implementation with clean data migration. Customisations are replaced with standard features or AppSource apps where possible and rebuilt in AL only where they add real value.

Typical scope

Upgrade assessmentC/AL to ALCloud migration toolData clean-upParallel testing

The outcome

A supported, cloud-based Business Central with your history intact — and far less custom code to maintain.

An implementation that went wrong

Over budget, behind schedule — or live, but nobody trusts the numbers.

Before

  • Workarounds outside the system
  • Open issues nobody owns
  • Reports that don’t reconcile

↓

After a stabilisation

  • A prioritised, costed fix list
  • Processes users actually follow
  • Numbers finance can sign off

Challenge

Scope crept, the senior consultant from the sales meeting disappeared, data was migrated badly or training was rushed — and now the business works around the ERP instead of in it.

What it costs you

A large investment that isn’t paying back, frustrated staff and real risk to inventory and financial reporting.

How we solve it

An independent review of your setup, data, customisations and processes, followed by a fixed-scope stabilisation plan. We fix what’s broken, reconcile the data, retrain users and only then add what’s missing.

Typical scope

Health checkData reconciliationProcess redesignRetrainingManaged services

The outcome

A Business Central system the business trusts — and a clear plan for what comes next.

Systems that don’t talk to each other

Orders, stock and invoices retyped between your webstore, EDI, warehouse and finance.

Before

  • Online orders keyed in by hand
  • Stock levels out of sync
  • EDI orders printed and re-entered

↓

With Business Central

  • Shopify orders flow in automatically
  • One stock figure across every channel
  • EDI documents processed in the ERP

Challenge

Your Shopify store, retailer EDI, warehouse system, CRM and finance each hold part of the picture — and people move data between them.

What it costs you

Overselling, late orders, retailer chargebacks and staff time spent copying data instead of serving customers.

How we solve it

We use Business Central’s standard connectors first — such as the Shopify connector and Microsoft 365 — then build reliable AL and API integrations for EDI, WMS, CRM, 3PL and freight, with monitoring and error alerts.

Typical scope

Shopify connectorEDITasklet WMSDynamics 365 SalesBusiness Central APIs

The outcome

Orders entered once, stock you can trust in every channel and fewer retailer penalties.

Stock and warehouse you can’t trust

Stale stock counts, paper picking and no idea what’s on the truck.

Before

  • Paper pick slips
  • Stocktakes that never match
  • Wrong item, wrong customer

↓

With Business Central + Tasklet

  • Barcode scanning on mobile devices
  • Bin-level stock in real time
  • Faster, accurate picking and dispatch

Challenge

Warehouse staff work from paper, receipts are entered late and stock figures are only right straight after a stocktake.

What it costs you

Lost sales, excess safety stock, mis-picks, returns and customers who stop trusting your delivery dates.

How we solve it

We set up Business Central locations, bins and warehouse processes, then add Tasklet Factory mobile warehouse management — Eagle360 is the Australian partner for Tasklet Factory — for scanning receipts, put-aways, picks, transfers and counts.

Typical scope

Locations & binsTasklet mobile WMSBarcode labelsLot & serial trackingNetstock

The outcome

Stock figures you can quote to customers — and a warehouse that ships faster with fewer errors.

Manufacturing without real control

Costs, capacity and traceability managed outside the ERP.

Before

  • Recipes and BOMs in spreadsheets
  • Purchasing by gut feel
  • Recalls traced by hand

↓

With Business Central Premium

  • Production BOMs and routings
  • MRP suggests what to make and buy
  • Batch traceability in minutes

Challenge

Production is planned on whiteboards, actual costs are unknown until month-end and batch traceability depends on paper records.

What it costs you

Stock-outs of key materials, excess stock of others, margins you can’t see and real exposure in a product recall or audit.

How we solve it

Business Central Premium manufacturing — production BOMs, routings, MRP, capacity and shop-floor reporting — with batch and lot tracking. For food, chemicals and other process manufacturers, we add process-manufacturing apps such as Yaveon.

Typical scope

Premium licenceBOMs & routingsMRPBatch traceabilityYaveon

The outcome

Planned production, known costs per batch and traceability you can prove.

You can’t see the numbers you need

Reports built by hand in Excel — and out of date when they arrive.

Before

  • Spreadsheets exported every week
  • Different numbers in every meeting
  • Consolidation done manually

↓

With Business Central + Power BI

  • Live dashboards for every role
  • One set of numbers
  • AU and NZ entities consolidated

Challenge

Management reports, margins, cash flow and KPIs are compiled by hand from several systems, and consolidation across companies takes days.

What it costs you

Slow decisions, hours of finance time each month and errors that reach the board pack.

How we solve it

We design a chart of accounts and dimensions that answer your real questions, set up multi-company consolidation, and connect Business Central to Power BI and Excel so every role sees live numbers.

Typical scope

DimensionsConsolidationPower BIExcel reportingMicrosoft Fabric

The outcome

A faster month-end and decisions made on numbers everyone trusts.

Too much manual admin

Invoices keyed in, emails turned into orders by hand, approvals chased by phone.

Before

  • Supplier invoices typed in
  • Customer emails re-keyed as orders
  • Approvals lost in inboxes

↓

With Copilot & automation

  • Invoices captured and drafted
  • Quotes drafted from emails
  • Approval workflows with reminders

Challenge

Skilled people spend hours on data entry, matching and chasing — work a modern ERP can do for them.

What it costs you

Slower order processing, late supplier payments, errors and a team too busy to improve anything.

How we solve it

We switch on the Copilot and agent features that suit your business — such as the Sales Order Agent, Payables Agent and Copilot bank reconciliation — and add document capture (Continia), approval workflows and Power Automate, always with a person reviewing before anything is posted.

Typical scope

CopilotAI agentsContiniaApproval workflowsPower Automate

The outcome

Less keying, faster processing and a team that spends its time on customers and suppliers.

A partner that doesn’t respond

Tickets sit for weeks and every change becomes a new project.

Before

  • Slow or no replies
  • A different consultant every time
  • Updates postponed for years

↓

With Eagle360

  • Named senior consultants
  • Local teams in Sydney and Melbourne
  • Updates planned and tested

Challenge

Your Business Central or NAV partner is slow to respond, has lost the people who knew your system, or keeps postponing updates.

What it costs you

Users stuck on problems, missed improvements and a system drifting further from the current version.

How we solve it

Switching partners is simpler than most people think. We review your system and documentation, take over as your partner of record, and provide managed services: functional and technical support, enhancements, Microsoft update testing and user training for Australian and New Zealand customers.

The outcome

A responsive, senior team that knows your system — and a Business Central that keeps improving.

Navision & NAV upgrades

Is Navision the same as Business Central?

Yes. Navision became Microsoft Dynamics NAV, and NAV became Dynamics 365 Business Central in 2018. Business Central is NAV’s successor, so you upgrade rather than start again — and your NAV knowledge still applies.

How we implement Business Central

A four-step method that gets you live — on budget

New implementation, NAV upgrade or rescue, you know the plan, the price and who’s doing the work before we start.

01

Assess

A 1–2 week discovery: process mapping, requirements and a fit-gap analysis against standard Business Central.

You get

A fixed-price proposal.

02

Design

Functional, technical, integration and data migration design — agreed with your team before configuration starts.

You get

A solution design you’ve signed off.

03

Implement

Configuration, AL development, integrations, rehearsed data migration, user acceptance testing, training and cutover.

You get

A tested system and a trained team.

04

Optimise

Four weeks of hypercare after go-live, then managed services, update testing and continuous improvement.

You get

Support from the people who built it.

What is Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central?

Business Central is Microsoft’s all-in-one ERP for small and mid-sized businesses. It manages finance, sales, purchasing, inventory, warehousing, projects, service and manufacturing in one system, runs in Microsoft’s cloud or on-premises, works inside Outlook, Excel and Teams, and includes Copilot. It is the successor to Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision).

Is Navision the same as Business Central?

They are the same product family. Microsoft bought Navision in 2002 and renamed it Microsoft Dynamics NAV; in 2018 NAV became Dynamics 365 Business Central. Many people still say “Navision” when they mean NAV or Business Central. NAV customers can upgrade to Business Central rather than switching to a different ERP.

What is the difference between Dynamics NAV and Business Central?

Business Central keeps NAV’s core concepts but is cloud-first. It uses a modern web client and mobile apps, AL extensions instead of C/AL code changes, monthly Microsoft updates with two major releases a year, and built-in Copilot, Power BI, Power Automate and Microsoft 365 integration. Because customisations are extensions, updates no longer require expensive re-upgrades.

Is Business Central cloud-based or on-premises?

Both. Business Central online is software-as-a-service hosted and updated by Microsoft. Business Central on-premises runs on your own or hosted servers. About 85% of our new implementations are online, and we support on-premises and hybrid setups where there is a good reason for them.

Who is Business Central for?

Business Central suits growing small and mid-sized businesses that have outgrown basic accounting software or need to replace an older ERP. We focus on companies with 20–500 staff and AU$10M–$500M revenue in manufacturing, distribution and wholesale, professional services and construction.

Does Business Central include CRM?

Business Central includes contacts, opportunities and basic sales tracking. For full CRM — pipelines, marketing and customer service — Dynamics 365 Sales integrates natively with Business Central for accounts, items, prices and orders.

Does Business Central have AI?

Yes. Microsoft Copilot is built into Business Central, with features such as bank reconciliation suggestions, item descriptions, chat and analysis assistance. AI agents such as the Sales Order Agent and Payables Agent handle routine tasks for a person to review. Availability varies by version and region, and we confirm what is available for your environment.

When does support for Dynamics NAV end?

Microsoft extended (security-only) support has ended for NAV 2009, NAV 2013 and 2013 R2 (January 2023), NAV 2015 (14 January 2025) and NAV 2016 (14 April 2026). NAV 2017 extended support ends on 11 January 2027 and NAV 2018 on 11 January 2028. Always confirm dates on Microsoft’s Lifecycle site when planning.

Can we keep using NAV after support ends?

Your system will keep running, but Microsoft stops releasing security updates, and regulatory changes are not guaranteed. Over time, compatibility with current Windows and SQL Server versions, modern integrations and people who know the old code all become harder to find.

Can we upgrade from NAV directly to Business Central online?

Not in one step. From NAV 2015–2018, the usual technical path goes through Business Central 14, converts C/AL customisations to AL extensions, upgrades to the current version and then uses Microsoft’s cloud migration tool to move online. Older versions such as NAV 2009 and 2013 are usually better served by a fresh implementation with data migration.

Should we upgrade NAV or reimplement Business Central?

A technical upgrade keeps your full history and suits systems with clean data and modest customisation. A reimplementation suits heavily customised systems, old versions or businesses whose processes have changed. We assess your version, data and modifications and compare both options with a fixed price before you decide.

What happens to our NAV customisations?

We review each one. Many are now standard Business Central features or available as AppSource apps. The rest are rebuilt as AL extensions that sit beside Microsoft’s code, so future updates no longer overwrite them. Customisations nobody uses are retired.

How long does a NAV to Business Central upgrade take?

It depends on your version, the number of customisations and integrations, and your data volume. Most NAV upgrades take a few months from assessment to go-live. After a short assessment we give you a timeline and a fixed price.

How much does Business Central cost per user in Australia?

Microsoft’s Australian list prices (ex GST, paid yearly, checked October 2026) are AU$119.70 per user per month for Essentials, AU$164.60 for Premium and AU$12.00 for Team Members. Device licences and a free External Accountant licence are also available. Prices can change, so we confirm current pricing in every proposal.

What is the difference between Business Central Essentials and Premium?

Essentials covers finance, sales, purchasing, inventory, warehousing, projects and multi-company. Premium adds manufacturing (production orders, BOMs, routings, MRP and capacity planning) and service management. All full users in an environment must be on the same plan, so one manufacturing or service requirement moves every full user to Premium.

What is a Team Members licence?

A low-cost licence for people who mainly read information, approve workflows, enter time or expenses and update selected records. Team Members cannot post sales orders or journals, so most finance, sales and operations staff need a full Essentials or Premium licence.

How much does a Business Central implementation cost?

Our implementations are fixed-price after a 1–2 week discovery, typically from about AU$80,000 to AU$250,000 depending on modules, companies, data migration, integrations and customisation. Microsoft licences are additional. Indicatively, year-one cost for 25 users including licences is around AU$140,000–AU$310,000.

Are there hidden costs with Business Central?

There shouldn’t be, but costs people forget include third-party apps (such as WMS, document capture or payroll), integrations, extra database storage beyond Microsoft’s included capacity, training and ongoing support. Our proposals list all of these up front.

How long does a Business Central implementation take?

A standard mid-market implementation goes live in 12–20 weeks: around 10–14 weeks for distribution and 16–24 weeks for manufacturing. Our Unifii360 industry templates typically shorten timelines by about 20%.

How does a fixed-price Business Central implementation work?

We run a structured 1–2 week discovery covering process mapping, requirements and a fit-gap analysis. You then receive a fixed-price proposal for the agreed scope, so the budget is the budget. Changes are agreed in writing before any work starts. Time-and-materials applies only to later enhancements and managed services.

Can we move from Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks to Business Central?

Yes. We migrate your chart of accounts, customers, suppliers, items and opening balances, map your processes into Business Central and train your team. Many businesses move at the start of a financial year or quarter for a clean cut-over.

What data do you migrate to Business Central?

Typically master data (customers, suppliers, items, the chart of accounts), open balances and open documents. History can come across in full, in summary or as a read-only archive — whatever your reporting and audit needs require. Every migration is rehearsed and reconciled before go-live.

What makes Eagle360 different from other Business Central partners?

Four things: platform heritage — our founders have worked with Navision and Dynamics since 1999; Unifii360 industry templates that cut about 20% off timelines; senior consultants who stay from kick-off to go-live, averaging 12+ years in Dynamics; and partnerships with Tasklet Factory (we are its Australian partner), Continia, Netstock, Yaveon, Shopify and EDI providers.

Do you provide Business Central training?

Yes. Role-based training for finance, sales, purchasing, warehouse and management users, using your own processes and data, plus train-the-trainer sessions and quick-reference guides.

Does Business Central handle Australian GST and BAS?

Yes. The Australian version of Business Central handles GST on sales and purchases and helps you prepare BAS figures. We set up your tax codes and posting groups and test BAS figures against your current system before go-live.

Does Business Central include Australian payroll?

No. Business Central does not include Australian payroll. Most businesses run an STP-compliant Australian payroll system and post payroll journals into Business Central automatically. We set up and test that integration.

Do you support New Zealand companies?

Yes. We support Australian and New Zealand customers, including groups with entities in both countries, using Business Central’s multi-company, intercompany, multi-currency and consolidation features.

Do you have Business Central consultants in Sydney and Melbourne?

Yes. Our Sydney office is at Level 1, 345 Pacific Highway, North Sydney, and our Melbourne office is at Level 14, 1 Queens Road, Melbourne. We work on-site and remotely with customers across Australia and New Zealand.

Can we change our Business Central partner?

Yes, and it is simpler than most people expect. You nominate Eagle360 as your partner of record, we review your system and documentation, and we take over support without disrupting your users.

Do you offer Business Central support and managed services?

Yes. Our managed services include functional and technical support, enhancements, Microsoft update testing and user training for Australian and New Zealand customers, delivered by named senior consultants.

How do Microsoft updates work in Business Central online?

Microsoft releases two major updates a year plus smaller monthly updates. You can schedule when updates are applied, and we test them in a sandbox against your extensions and processes before they reach your users.

Can you rescue a Business Central implementation that has gone wrong?

Yes. We start with an independent review of your setup, data, customisations and processes, then agree a fixed-scope stabilisation plan: fix configuration and data, reconcile balances, retrain users and only then add missing features.
